Redefining and redesigning the Dildo
After several rounds of communication with Richard Almgren, the designer of the Dodil reshapeable dildo (also the Head of Engineering at the company behind the morphing phallus), I was given the opportunity to test the Swedish-designed newcomer to the sex toy market.
What I received from the Dodil
In my discreet plain package from Buildovations, I received the large sturdy aquamarine thermos flask, containing the Dodil itself, an instruction leaflet and a length of black plastic ‘twine.’ The flask is huge and before you shout ‘hooray, now I can keep a hot flask of coffee with me wherever I go!,’ be warned that it is only advised for use in heating the Dodil. I’m sorry to break it to you. But, nonetheless it will keep your Dodil safe from prying eyes and dust-free in your cupboard when it’s not being used.
As for the Dodil, it is a firm thick silicone ‘sausage’ shape, about 5.25 inches in circumference, and 7.5 inches length. There is a colour-coordinating ‘cap’ at one end (the base), that has the Dodil logo. This end is sticking upwards in the image of the Dodil in its flask, within the instructional leaflet. The black ‘twine’ is included to enable you to tie it around the Dodil shaft when shaping, so that you can create ‘bulbs’. In addition, you can bend the Dodil, and twist or pinch it to manipulate it to the form you wish to pleasure yourself with. It can be used vaginally or anally, though for anal use it needs to have a defined bend to prevent it from becoming sucked into the anus. For the purposes of this review I’ll be testing it vaginally.
One important instruction is not to stretch it to a length over 30cm. And also not to use any sharp implements when shaping the Dodil, that could damage the exterior or penetrate into the core. Oh, and definitely do not microwave the Dodil.

After I’d marvelled at my creation, I decided it was time to see if the ‘proof is in the pudding,’ so to speak. I had tried to mould an angled bulbous end to target my G-spot. The lower part of the shaft was not necessarily well-considered nor crafted with much finesse, but it would serve as a good ‘handle’ portion of the Dodil.
After warming up with a clitoral vibrator, I lubed up my newly-crafted Dodil and eased it into my eager vagina. The angling of the ‘head’ seemed to work a treat at targeting my G-spot. And the girth of the bulbousend was fulfilling without being too much to bear.Thrusting the Dodil whilst using my vibrator on my clitoris soon lead to a climactic release, that was extremely pleasurable. The shape was retested on another separate occasion to see if the effect would be repeated (it was!). The silicone is very smooth and has a slight drag, though not excessive so as to be uncomfortable or make it a total ‘lint-magnet.’
After my play, I then decided it was time to remould my Dodil, to test its reshape-ability.
Back into the Thermos
The Dodil went back into its ‘mini-oven’ to heat and soften it so that it could be shaped into a new dildo. This time, I managed to get a perfectly soft Dodil in 30 minutes, and then remoulding took another 10-15 minutes. I did notice when manipulating it, that it does revert away from the shape you are trying to create. So you need to keep hold of it in the shape you desire, whilst it cools.
The Dodil can be held under cold water to help speed up firming and setting. Also, it is of note that the outer surface of the Dodil indents very easily when soft, so this could affect its aesthetic appearance in creating the ‘end product.’
For my next shape, I attempted what I feel resembles a ‘Dolphin.’ I’ve not yet tested this shape, but I will update this post when I have tried it.
Final Thoughts on the Dodil
I like the Dodil and the company’s stance in designing a gender-neutral, sex-positive toy that has multiple possibilities. It was fun to create new shapes, and even more fun testing them. The only down-side is the time it takes…45 minutes to craft a dildo is quite a long time if you live in a busy household with various distractions. Having said that, you can leave the Dodil to ‘incubate’ in the thermos whilst you get on with another task (most commonly laundry in my household!).
My feeling is that despite the novelty of being able to re-shape your Dodil, it will probably be best used by being moulded into a shape that works how you’d like it to. That way you will get the benefit of your own personalised sex toy for a longer duration. If / and when you get bored of it, you can always create a new design at that point in time.
