As Staind said, “it’s been a while.” In this case, it has been ages since I reviewed lingerie of any description. Moreover, like a lot of my lingerie, reviews in general have been scant on this blog recently. I must admit, I’m not being particularly proactive in asking for tester products at the moment. Because I know that in another month, things will kick off with the ‘house build’ project, and normality as I know it will be blasted into the stratosphere.
A Chemise that appeals to Art Deco fans and lingerie lovers
But for now at least, I have a lovely chemise by Passion to review, courtesy of my good friends at Something Purple! The Samara Chemise arrived in a black glossy card box with an outer sleeve. There is a sultry photograph of the model wearing the chemise on the front and back of the sleeve. Both images show the front of the chemise.
On the side of the sleeve, the materials are stated as polyamide (86%) and elastane (14%). The size of the chemise is XXL/XXXL. Now, I don’t want to rant, but I feel like I need to at this point. I am a UK size 12-14. In what way is that classed as XXL/XXXL? I mean one ‘X’ would be more than enough thank you very much! No wonder the industry is continuing to be so damaging to people’s self-image when they are touting their sizes as ‘whale-sized’ for a major demographic of the population.
Ok, now I’ve ‘stamped my feet’ so to speak, I will move on to what I think of the chemise itself. What attracted me to this piece is it’s classic elegance. It exudes a kind of ‘Art Deco’ character, which I love. The fact it is ‘nude’ in colour tone (they call it Ecru), makes it seem ‘naughty’ in a cute, coquettish way. There is a double hook-and-eye fastening at the rear of the chemise, which is easy enough to fasten and unfasten. If you have mobility issues, you may find this a bit tricky to do without assistance.
Despite the sizing label suggesting it is ‘tent-sized,’ I find the Samara Chemise hugs my curves nicely. There are no unsightly bulges or excesses of material gathering anywhere they shouldn’t. The seams are well-finished with no loose threads to detract from the quality.
Bat those ‘lashes’
Around the bust there is some stretchiness, so if you have slightly fuller breasts than my C cups it should still give sufficient coverage. The black mesh overlay detail has flowers and ‘eyelash’ edging. These features give the chemise the Art Deco effect I mentioned above. The care instructions state to wash at 30°C. I would recommend using a net laundry bag for delicate items, to wash the chemise in a machine. Also, take care to use a suitable program for synthetic materials.
Whilst I like the chemise, I have to say I’m not a fan of the accompanying G-string. It is merely a coordinating triangular scrap of ecru material with black straps. I feel it cheapens the chemise somewhat so I think a pair of satin feel pants would be much more pleasing. All in all, I think the Samara chemise is sexy enough for a young couple (early 20s) to ignite some passion (pardon the pun). It is also ‘classic’ enough to appeal to not-so-young people, to give them a confidence boost. 🙂
